Lesson 1.5: Initial Assessments - Setting Up for Success
The initial assessment is your baseline. It documents conditions before you start work and determines everything that follows - from equipment needs to billing categories. Get this wrong, and you're fighting uphill the entire claim.
What You'll Learn
- The systematic approach to initial assessments
- How to properly classify water categories (1, 2, 3)
- Equipment calculation based on affected square footage
- Documenting conditions that justify your scope of work
Water Categories
- Category 1 (Clean): Supply lines, rain, ice maker - lowest billing
- Category 2 (Gray): Dishwasher, washing machine, toilet overflow with urine - medium billing
- Category 3 (Black): Sewage, rising flood water, toilet overflow with feces - highest billing
Critical Rule
Category can only go UP, never down. Cat 1 water sitting for 48+ hours becomes Cat 2. Document the timeline!
